Comic: Seattle, Day Two

It was a few weeks coming for that second part, because life and stuff happens, but there you have it for the Seattle trip.  Comics are fun.

Stay tuned for the reason of the illustration delay: the Sasquatch Music Festival!

Snakes Are Jerks

Annnnnd another one.  Last one, I promise! (Maybe).

Wolf + Scythe

Yep.  It’s another one.

Wolf on a Stick

Yes!  It’s been well over a month and I’m STILL posting drawings I did while sitting at my table at Stumptown.  I churned quite a few of these out, and yes, I’m dragging out the reveal of each as long as possible.  Maybe I’ll make it really painful, and only show half a drawing at a time.  No?  Bad idea?  Okay.

I admit, these are decidedly more violent that my usual stuff (except the Color War piece, of course).  Something about that comic festival really inspired cute animal murder.

Portland People // Floral Overalls

This fella has already been posted at my Tumblr, but here again is one of my favorite sightings from the last few weeks, a grown man in floral overalls.  As if that weren’t enough, he wore them shirtless with a decidedly 90′s club kid vibe.  I loved it.  Spotted right around SE 47th Avenue and Hawthorne.

Experiments // Neil Young

Sometimes you get a little wild hair and you want to try something new and so you break out your inks and start drawing an illustration of Neil Young.

And then sometimes you scan in the linework just in case, because you’re about to paint on it, and since you’re experimenting you could probably mess it all up.

And sometimes you paint a on a drawing and you’re like, “Ah F**K!” because it looks pretty crappy, and you get mad and you want to tear it into a million pieces, but sometimes you keep working on it anyway.

So, sometimes, when you still hate the original drawing, you scan it into to Photoshop and and digitalize to death until maybe, MAYBE, you kinda sorta like it.

So that’s what happened with this drawing.

Comic: Seattle, Day One

Yesterday was Jake’s birthday.  We celebrated last weekend by taking a train journey up to Seattle.  Since we’d been there a few times before, we arrived with no agenda other than to wander around and enjoy the supremely nice weather.

I posted a few pictures to Instagram, but our camera is currently in the repair shop, soooooo…I made a quick and (slightly) crude comic about our Seattle adventures!  Without further ado, here is Day One:

I had not drawn a single thing in four days (vacationing and drawing really don’t mix for me), and during the initial panels of this comic I was like, “OMG did I FORGET how to draw?!?”, then realized I was struggling with a split hair brush and a dying Micron.  The original drawings were made in my landscape sketchbook, so please pardon any wonky layouts.

Look out for Day Two and Three over the next few days!  And happy happy birthday to Jake!

WOLF + CANOE at Farm

Last night was the opening reception for WOLF + CANOE, a group of collaboration drawings by myself and lady artist Brooke Weeber.  The Farm Cafe played an excellent host; instead of hovering around the bar (as is my natural environment), we were generously provided with our own reserved section, wine, and delicious snacks.  A big thank you goes out to Cassie for giving us such wonderful service!

Collaborating with Brooke was really a painless and seamless process, and we’re pretty dang proud of the work that came out of mashing our two styles together.  We may yet do more in the future.

As for the friendly faces that came out last night: YOU RULE.  And for the ones that snatched up your very own original WOLF + CANOE: YOU RULE HARDER.

Camera is still broken.  Bummer.

Prints will be online soon!  In the meantime, Brooke will be selling signed WOLF + CANOE art prints (as well as a ton of other stuff) at this weekend’s Crafty Wonderland.  All of the collaboration work can be seen online here.  And to see them for really-reals, stop by Farm for a delicious libation or healthy NOMS.

Battle Badger

Another in the series of drawings I did while sitting at my table at the Stumptown Comics Fest.  Yep, I did quite a few these.

I must admit that while I like working on this watercolor paper, I’m not too fond of the way it scans.  You just can’t beat the smoothness of Bristol.

Cute Bunnies

Here is one of the ink drawings I did while sitting at my table at the Stumptown Comics Fest last weekend.

I like bunnies.  I really really do.  But this one had to be decapitated.  The kids loved it!

I’m thinking about putting a print of this one up in my shop, along with a few other “Animal Battle” drawings.  What do you think?  Would you like one?
