Thanks to the good word of fellow AZ ex-pat and motolady, Cindy over at Fashion Serial Killer, I had the pleasure of working on this fun poster promoting the first Women’s Ride with See See Motorcycles.

Paintin’ this number was almost as fun as riding a motorbike (but not quite).  Speaking of, can it be summer now?

This particular beast is a Striped Hyena.

One of the aspects I’m taking advantage of with this series is the opportunity to discover unfamiliar species.

Like most folks I was familiar with the hyena, but I’d never seen a striped hyena. One of their most striking features is their mane, which sticks up like a crazy mohawk when excited.

With less than 10,000, this animal is considered “near threatened” to extinction.

Hey everyone!

Last week’s opening for Animal Battle was fantastic, and I took a much needed break from the studio.  I have lots of photos to share from the event, but for now I wanted to share a special announcement.

Beautiful Animal Battle prints are now available in my shop! And for TODAY only, the first five print orders receive a FREE signed promotional Animal Battle poster!  Woo hooooo!  Shop those prints here and check out the show in its entirety on my portfolio site.

Good luck!

I heard that soft moss, blades of grass, and tiny mushrooms make for very durable battle gear.  And I can think of nothing more intimidating than a bolo tie bearing a little black scorpion.  This raccoon is tough.  I’d watch out for him.

More – ever more! – work for Animal Battle.  At the risk of sounding like a broken record: May 2nd.  Pony Club Gallery.  Portland.  Allllll this stuff will be hanging on a wall.

And ya know what else?

Affordable, beautiful prints.  Soon to be in my shop.

Here is the official event on Facebook.  Hope to see you there, friends!

Cheers!

And for the first time ever, I’ve captured my process in a time-lapse video!  It’s pretty nuts watching hours and hours of work reduced to just a few minutes.

Watch this drawing come to life:

And here is the official flyer for my show!

I’m super excited for this opening!  I’m also super excited to finish this work.  So…..back to the drawing board.

Sargeant Owl carries the flag for the Eyes + Hands Army.  He’s quite dapper, ain’t he?

This show, Animal Battle, opens in a month!  I’ve been working relentlessly, usually seven days a week, but I’ve been enjoying myself immensely.  I’m looking forward to hanging all these works together on a wall.

The first work for my solo show, Animal Battle, is finally done!  Phew.  That took a minute.

Entitled Hearts & Stars, this piece features creatures of a special army, geared up and ready to go face-to-fuzzy-animal-face in a battle that will surely delight you.  Don’t worry, little ones – there will be no bloodshed here.

Stick around to see what all the fighting is for.

Animal Battle will be opening Thursday, May 2nd at the Pony Club Gallery.

Hearts + Stars // Progress

I’ve been slowly building an army, soldier by soldier.  Here’s the work in progress of my first piece, “Hearts + Stars”, for my upcoming solo show.

My favorite part, outside of picking all the colors, is painting all the teeny tiny brushstrokes that make up the fur.  It’s SUPER time-consuming, but equally fun.  Or I’m just some lunatic that actually enjoys painting ridiculously small lines with a two-haired brush.

With less than two months to finish all the work, it’s safe to say that I should probably turn into a hermit.  TO ALL MY FRIENDS:  it’s not that I don’t like you, I promise, I just can’t hang right now.

After a quick sojourn to the woods this weekend, I’ll be falling off the face of the planet.  Check back here for more fuzzy animals.

I’ll be hosting my first solo show this year in May, which means I’m going to relentlessly barrage you with pictures of works in progress.  For the next two months, you’ll be seeing plenty of bunnies, raccoons, foxes, owls – a whole menagerie of animal troops!

The idea for Animal Battle first came about while I sat at my table during Stumptown Comics Fest last year.  The first drawings were a tiiiiiiiiiny bit more violent, but in the year or so since the idea was first born, the concept of Animal Battle has matured into something different altogether.

I’ve been drawing in my sketchbook and developing ideas for some time now, and the concept of Animal Battle has grown to embody things I’m very passionate about: self-empowerment, following your dreams, and the magical power of imagination.

In my mind’s eye, the battlefield will be charged by two Armies: Hearts + Stars and Hands + Eyes.  I’m very excited to finally develop these ideas on paper, and I hope you’ll enjoy seeing the progress.

In addition to my drawings, I’m also making dip-dyed battle flags!  This part has been super fun and I can’t wait to share the final results.

Animal Battle will be opening May 2nd at Pony Club Gallery.  Stick around here for more drawings, or follow me on Instagram (@leetlewolf) or on Facebook for the latest works in progress.

Art Show // Carte De Visite

To celebrate their second anniversary, Gigantic Gallery is hosting a Carte De Visite show this Thursday, March 7th.

Used as a photographer’s calling cards in the mid 19th century, Carte De Visites were traditionally small photographs mounted on thicker paper, and became popular trading cards.  These days, you’ll usually find Carte De Visites in junk shops in file cabinets labeled “Instant Relatives”.

For my own Carte De Visites, I revisited an old favorite smudgy medium, graphite on paper.  I also paid a little homage to a couple of creep-tastic artists, Edward Gorey and Stephen Gammell.

And while you’re galavanting about for first Thursday, stop by the Pony Club Gallery, where fellow member Keith Carter is hosting his solo show and doing some live-painting!
