Ahhhhh…..AOL Chat rooms.  Hours of idle time squandered away with LOL’s  and inappropriate remarks from strangers.  ♫♫♫ meeeemmmories ♫♫♫

Other favorite chat rooms from that era usually included “Smashing Pumpkins” or “Ska vs. Punk”.  It wasn’t until five or so years later the Friendster began, then < MySpace < Facebook.  Prior to all this of course were words that were written by actual hands grasping actual pens or pencils on stuff called paper.  Does anyone pass old-timey notes in class anymore?

Life was hard back in 1997.  It took a really long time to connect to the Internet, and then you couldn’t use the phone.  And there were only like, 110,000 websites to surf, and truthfully they were all kinda ugly.  But it was all worth it just to hear that AOL dude yell “WELCOME!” once you finally connected to the world wild web.
